OPERATION JULIE

Last summer’s sell-out success is back to prog-rock the UK

Theatr na nÓg and Aberystwyth Arts Centre present one of the most jaw-dropping true stories ever to come out of Wales…OPERATION JULIE.

Breaking Bad collides with The Good Life in this anarchic play with music from the 70’s prog-rock, performed live on stage by 9 talented actor-musicians. It tells the incredible story of the undercover operation that resulted in dozens of arrests and the discovery of LSD worth £100 million, and smashed one of the most extraordinary drug rings the world has ever seen.

POST-SHOW Q&A ON WEDNESDAY 15 MAY This is your chance to meet someone who was involved in the real Operation Julie!

The post-show Q&A will be a chat with Geinor Styles, writer and director of Operation Julie; Alston ‘Smiles’ Hughes, former LSD distributor and one of dozens arrested as part of Operation Julie; and Andy Roberts, psychedelic historian and author of Smiles’ biography, ‘In Search of Smiles’. The event will be in the theatre following the performance of Operation Julie and will be a chance to ask questions about the show and the real stories that inspired it.

This event complements the show well, giving audiences a glimpse into what it was really like during the time of Operation Julie. Andy and Smiles are very open about their experiences in the 70s, and Geinor provides her side from the show’s perspective, discussing the creative process and how she turned an undercover police investigation into a hit musical.

Q&A will last approximately 30-45 mins.

Wednesday 15 May - Saturday 18 May, 7.30pm Saturday 18 May, 2.30pm
