GET READY FOR AN ENORMOUS WEEKEND!
Bubbles and face painting, craft and cartoon workshops, a treasure hunt and outdoor activities – just some of the events due to take place in Caernarfon on 16th & 17th September to celebrate Roald Dahl's centenary.
The ENORMOUS weekend, organised by Gwynedd Libraries and Community Arts Unit and Palas Print, and supported by Literature Wales and the Welsh Government as part of the Roald Dahl 100 Wales celebrations, begins on Friday evening 16th September with a story journey, and will continue through Saturday with events in Caernarfon Library in the morning and in Palace Street in the afternoon.
“Our aim in organising the event was to have lots of fun inspired by Roald Dahl's work,” said Nia Gruffydd, Gwynedd Libraries’ User Services Manager.
“We very much wanted to bring the work of Roald Dahl to life, to insprie children's creativity, with art, craft, outdoor activity, theatre events and, of course, reading and writing,” she added.
Mewn Cymeriad will perform a theatrical show inspired by Roald Dah's work, and Gwawr Roberts will lead a craft workshop with children to build something enormous in the Library on Saturday morning.
During the afternoon, Palace Street will be turned into a celebration of Roald Dahl with activities for children of all ages in the street and in the shops. Wild Elements - a local company specialising in inspiring children with outdoor activities, will provide children with wild activities in Palace Street, children can have a go at embossing with artist Ann Catrin Evans, cartoonist Huw Aaron will help children create their own cartoons, Bethan Gwanas will lead a giant writing workshop, and there will be other surprises for everyone up and down the street.
“We very much hope that the whole street will be a hive of activity and colour, with families joining in the treasure hunt in between other activities provided by Wild Elements, Dr Ziggs, Cimera and others,” said bookshop owner, Eirian James
“Many businesses on the street are getting involved, and I hope everyone will get dressed up as their favourite Roald Dahl character and enjoy an afternoon of fun and inspiration” she added.
